The match day 23 game between Sharks and Ocean boys did not hold at the Sharks Stadium on Saturday as scheduled.
SuperSport was at the venue of the game by 3:02pm on Saturday and it was noticed that only players of Sharks were on the turf for the warm up.
With less than 35 minutes to the 4.00 pm kickoff time, the Ocean boys’ were yet to take to the pitch leading to queries from this reporter as to why the visitors were yet to show up.
Painstaking investigations revealed that the Ocean Boys contingent arrived at the Sharks stadium, venue for the game shortly before 3pm. On their way into the changing rooms, some members of the contingent were allegedly attacked and beaten up by some yet-to-be-identified individuals, leaving them with serious injuries.
Media chief of Ocean Boys, Eddy Ohis explained that four members of the team were beaten up.
Sharks secretary, Cyril Dum Wite said he was ‘shocked’ at the incident and called for an ‘overhaul of the security arrangement before league games’.
Sharks sit in 10th place on the NPL with 30 points from 21 matches while Ocean Boys three places off the bottom of the table with 25 points from 21 matches.
When will these violence stop? It has taken the shine of the league.
