EURO 2012:FRUSTRATED CRISTIANO RONALDO TAKES OUT FRUSTRATION ON MESSI AFTER BEING TAUNTED DURING PORTUGAL, DENMARK CLASH

Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo has aimed an astonishing attack on Lionel Messi after being criticised for playing badly against Denmark on Wednesday.

The Real Madrid star fluffed two superb chances as his country stuttered to a 3-2 victory in Euro 2012 Group B.

Ronaldo said, of the Argentine superstar: 'You know where he was at this time [last year]? Do you know? He was being eliminated in the Copa America, in his own country. I think that’s worse, no?'

Denmark fans taunted the Real Madrid striker by chanting Barcelona forward Messi's name whenever he was on the ball.

Ronaldo was obviously frustrated with the limitations of his team-mates but only had himself to blame for Portugal's victory being hard work.

The Portuguese attacker's comments will be met with disdain by world football in general and perhaps even taken as jealousy.

Messi is widely considered the greatest player in the world and Ronaldo the No 2.

Although Ronaldo fired Madrid to La Liga glory last season he is arguably still in Messi's shadow.

Ronaldo hit an incredible 60 goals for his side, but Messi went 13 better with 73.
