English premiership side, Arsenal are facing stiff competition from Atletico Madrid for Celtic South Korea star Ki Sung-Yeung.
It was revealed earlier this week that the Gunners were preparing a bid for the £9million-rated midfielder, having been impressed by his performances during the London Olympic Games.
However it has emerged they are not the only ones in the hunt for the South Korean international.
Atletico Madrid, who have already signed Argentinean defender Cata Diaz, Uruguayan midfielder Cristian Rodriguez and former Newcastle man Emre Belozoglu, are keen to bolster their midfield which suffered with a lack of energy towards the end of last season.
The Spanish club are preapred to offer £6million, the same figure the Gunners expect to settle on.
The 23-year-old has also been tracked by QPR, but it has been claimed he would rather not be in the shadow of fellow countryman Park Ji-sung, who has moved to Loftus Road from Manchester United.
Arsenal's scouting network have kept a close eye on Ki — who has been dubbed the South Korean Steven Gerrard in his homeland — during the Olympic Games and have been suitably impressed.
