ARSENE WENGER INSIST VAN PERSIE IS STAYING IN ARSENAL

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reiterated his desire to convince unsettled captain Robin van Persie to remain at the club.

Last month the Dutch striker announced that he did not want to renew his contract at the Emirates, meaning that Arsenal could lose the PFA Player of the Year for nothing next summer.

''There’s no news on van Persie,' he said. ' 'Robin scored 30 goals last season and you want to keep your best players. He was player of the year in England.

We have not bought the players to replace Van Persie, but to strengthen our squad with the thinking Van Persie will stay. That’s still my mind at the moment.'

One of the players Wenger has brought in is German forward Lukas Podolski, who netted twice in the win over his former club.

The former Bayern Munich player, 27, said he was delighted at the reception he received from his new fans in his homeland but he feels he is not yet fully fit.
