The 2012/2013 Nigeeria premier league season is expected to kick start, al things being equal, on December 1, 2012

The kick-off for season has been suspended to allow the authorities thrash various vexed issues, from sponsorship to leadership, concerning the league.
However, top officials have said they are now working on the new season starting on December 1.

This would be after the NPL congress in Abuja between November 15 and 17 as well as the general assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on November 22 in Port Harcourt, which will endorse this new kick-off date.

“We now plan to have the NPL congress in Abuja between November 15 and 17 after which we will get the approval of the NFF general assembly on November 22 for the league to begin on December 1.” a top official disclosed

On the several issues affecting the smooth running of the league, the official assured that the league sponsorship will be resolved before the big kick-off.

The last season ended on September 7 with Kano Pillars emerging champions for the second time in their history.

They and runners-up Enugu Rangers will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League.

Ocean Boys have been expelled from the league after they flouted the rules and regulations of the competition, while Niger Tornadoes, Rising Stars and Jigawa Golden Stars have been relegated.

El Kanemi Warriors, Nasarawa United, Nembe City and Bayelsa United have been promoted from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
