Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says the Football Association needs to take action against Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is facing an FA charge after appearing to elbow Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye in his side’s 3-0 win on Tyneside.

Pardew said: 'He's looked at Yohan and he's elbowed him. I think that needs to be looked at, if I’m honest.

'There was a bit of history there and I don’t know whether he’s got caught up in that, but that was just a little bit of unsavouriness in the game

Pardew said he had not seen the second-half clash involving Dutch international Van Persie and France midfielder Cabaye as it happened but had watched it on replay.
Van Persie must now wait for referee Howard Webb’s report.

He faces a three-match ban if found guilty of violent conduct. Cabaye was adamant the striker hit him in the mouth as he remonstrated with Webb, who missed the off-the-ball collision.

The referee appeared to indicate that he would act if footage showed there was malicious contact.

The FA can review the incident if referee Howard Webb did not see it.
