ARSENAL AND CHELSEA SET TO BID FOR DIAME AS NEW DEAL WITH WEST HAM STALLS
West Ham's contract talks with Mohamed Diame have been complicated by a host of Barclays Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea, showing interest in the Senegal midfielder.
Queens Park Rangers have already considered a move for Diame, who has a £3.5million release clause included in the contract he signed after joining the Hammers on a free transfer from Wigan last summer.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has long been an admirer and The Sun reported today he is preparing a move amid fears that Mikel Arteta will be out for at least three weeks with a calf strain.
Rafa Benitez also likes the 25-year-old, a view reinforced by Diame's goal and game-changing appearance from the bench when West Ham beat Chelsea 3-1 in the Premier League last month.
French-born Diame has endured fitness problems since moving to England in 2009 and has been out with a hamstring injury since mid-December but has returned to action quicker than expected.
He was in Sam Allardyce's squad as an unused substitute for Saturday's defeat at Sunderland and will travel with the team for the FA Cup third round replay at Manchester United on Wednesday.
