SUPER EAGLES ARRIVE TO A ROUSING WELCOME
The victorious Super Eagles of Nigeria arrived to a rousing welcome at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Tuesday afternoon.
About 10,000 dancing and singing fans received the squad when they touched down about 4pm local time on board of a chartered flight from Johannesburg, South Africa.
The African champions cruised from the airport into the city on a motorcade.
A reception at the Abuja National Stadium attended by several top government functionaries was broadcast live on national television.
The joyous fans who trooped to National Stadium Abuja Tuesday evening to welcome the African champions did not allow the event to hold.
The fans mobbed their heroes and blocked them from taking the red carpet laid for them.
The Eagles arrived the National stadium about 6.30pm in a Marcopolo bus and coach Stephen Keshi was the first person to alight from the bus as crowd shouted out his nickname ‘Big Boss’. He was followed by his assistants Daniel ‘The Bull’ Amokachi, Ike Shorunmu and Sylvanus Okpala in that order.
Only five Eagles dropped from the bus before the crowd scrambled to touch their heroes.
Mikel Obi was the fans toast as they sang his praise as soon as he was getting down form the bus. Other players who alighted from the bus were Elderson, Ahmed Musa, Emmanuel Emenike and best goalkeeper of the tournament Vincent Enyeama before they were ordered back into the bus by the coaches due to the uncontrollable fans.
