England (Result): Arsenal 4-1 Reading, Swansea 1-2 Spurs, ManCity 4-0 Newcastle, Sunderland 0-1 ManUtd. My predictions: Arsenal 2-1 Reading, Swansea 1-2 Spurs, ManCity 2-2 Newcastle, Sunderland 0-1 ManUtd. So, it’s two correct results here and a perfect score.
Nigeria (Result): Enyimba 0-0 Warri Wolves, Rangers 3-1 Kwara, Dolphin 0-0 Sharks, ABS 2-3 Kano Pillars. My predictions: Enyimba 2-0 Warri Wolves, Rangers 1-0 Kwara, Dolphin 1-2 Sharks, ABS 1-0 kano Pillars. One correct results only unlike last week where I had four correct results with two perfect score.
Italy (Result): Inter 1-2 Juventus, Palermo 2-0 Roma, Chievo 0-1 Ac Milan, Torino 3-5 Napoli. My prediction: Inter 0-0 Juventus, Palermo 0-2 Roma, Chievo 1-3 Ac Milan, Torino 1-1 Napoli. One correct result
Spain (Result): Celta Vigo 2-2 Barcelona, Real Zaragoza 1-1 Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid 1-1 Valencia, Espanyol 2-2 Real Sociedad. My Predictions: Celta Vigo 1-1 Barcelona, Real Zaragoza 1-2 Real Madrid, Atjetico Madrid 3-1 Valencia, Espanyol 1-1 Real Sociedad.
Now let’s hit the ground running with this week top 4 selected predictions from various leagues across the world.
BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE
Westbrom VS Arsenal (3:00pm)
Steve Clark and his boys have their hands full against visiting Arsenal and if you recall last season Westbrom’s stand in goalkeeper virtually gifted Arsenal the champions league berth they craved with some horrendous goalkeeping couple with Tottenham’s late season collapse.
Currently Arsenal is in a rich vein of form winning away at Swansea and beating Reading silly last week shows they mean business as they seek champions league qualification but Westbrom are no easy pickings as they tend to make life so difficult for opponents at their home ground.
Prediction: Westbrom 1-0 Arsenal
Tottenham VS Everton (2:05pm)
With Gareth Bale, Aaron Lenon, and William Gallas all missing for two weeks due to injury David Moyes will surely fancy his side chances of collecting all 3points but Everton are also sweating on the fitness of Kevin Mirallas.
It will be interesting to see how AVB set up spurs to play without Bale because Tottenham haven’t won a game without him scoring this year but does that make them a one man team? That is debatable.
Adebayor and Dembele will be key if Spurs are to take maximum point from this game and stay on cause for a champions league qualification.
Prediction: Tottenham 1-1 Everton
Chelsea VS Sunderland (5:00pm)
Paolo Di Canio makes his debut as a coach in the premier league after he replaced Martin O’Neil at Sunderland but unlike Adkins whose Reading side was taken apart by Arsenal in his first game in-charge this game will be different.
Although, Sunderland will miss the services of captain Lee Cattermole and team top scorer Steven Fletcher I expect the Sunderland team to make a game out of their visit to Stamford bridge. Chelsea has managed their fixture pile up until now but I expect at this stage of the season it should begin to take its toll on the team.
Prediction: Chelsea 1-2 Sunderland
Manchester United VS Manchester City (8:00pm)
This is the biggest match in Europe this weekend as both teams head into the grudge Derby Europe and the world stand and take note.
Manchester City have no injury worries coming into this fixture except for long time absentees Michael Richards and Maicon but their biggest worry will be how cut down the 15points gap between them and their city rivals Manchester United who are on an 18match unbeaten run and yet to concede a premier league goal in their last 6games.
Manchester United welcome back Wanye Rooney and Rafael Da Silva whom both miss the FA cup replay against Chelsea due to injury.
Prediction: Manchester United 3-1 Manchester City
ITALIAN SERIE A
Juventus VS Pescara
Juventus lead the log with 68points, nine ahead of second placed Napoli and they have been untouchable so far thanks to their midfield anchored by pass master Pirlo and his able warlords Pogba, Vidal, and Marchisio while Buffon, and Chiellini provides security at the back.
Pescara shockingly defeated Roma 2-0 last week but is condemned to lose this game in Turin against the Old ladies.
Prediction: Juventus 3-0 Pescara
Roma VS Lazio
Roma will look to bounce back from a shameful defeat to bottom side Pescara last week in this week's Rome derby against a Lazio side that also lost their Europa cup fixture in Fenerbache, a game that saw Nigerian midfielder Ogenyi Onazi sent off.
Roma skipper Francesco Totti will look to add to his goals as he looks to put himself into the history books of Italian football but Lazio are tricky customers with Close and Saha playing up front they can spoil the party for Totti and his Roman army.
Prediction: Roma 2-2 Lazio
Fiorentina VS Ac Milan
I said last week that Stephen El Shaarawy, Mario Balotelli, and Kevin Prince Boateng are perhaps the most exciting forward line in the Serie A and if you throw in fit again Robinho, you get a fearsome quartet but the game against Chievo was decided by a lone strike from midfielder Montollivio.
Milan has been impressive in 2013 and the coming of Balotelli has had the same effect Zlatan Ibrahimovic use to have when he was at Milan. Fiorentina will rely on Jovetic to win this game and I think he will deliver.
Prediction: Fiorentina 2-0 Ac Milan
Napoli VS Genoa
Edison Cavani came off the bench to score a hat trick as Napoli defeated Torino 5-3 last weekend.
I expect them to carry on from where they stopped and demolish Genoa as they look to cement the second automatic qualification spot ahead of Ac Milan or close the gap with Juventus and maybe try and win the league
Prediction: Napoli 3-1 Genoa
LA LIGA (Saturday)
Real Sociedad VS Malaga (3:00pm)
Last week I revealed that Real Sociedad is the surprise package in Spain this season like Malaga was last season.
Both team face each other this weekend and unsurprisingly sit 4th and 5th with 48 and 47points respectively. I expect sociedad to win this one because Malaga’s focus will be on Tuesday’s champions league date with Dortmund in Germany.
Prediction: Real Sociedad 2-0 Malaga
Real Madrid VS Levante (5:00pm)
Real Madrid missed a massive opportunity to close the gap on Barcelona from 13 to 11points when they drew away to Real Zaragaza last weekend.
This weekend they are more relaxed after their win against Galatasaray in the Champions league, so levante will be in a mauling as they face a very confident Madrid team. Prediction: Real Madrid 4-0 Levante
Barcelona VS Mallorca (9:00pm)
Barcelona will be without Lionel Messi for the visit of Mallorca and may rest key players because of their crucial champions league fixture coming up against PSG on Wednesday next week.
So opportunity will be given to the likes of Alex Song to show if he can still hold his own at the top level, shame some Arsenal fans will say because just last season he was one of the outstanding players in the EPL and his sweet pass that led to RVP’s goal against Everton is still fresh in the minds of the gunners faithful’s.
Prediction: Barcelona 2-1 Mallorca
Sevilla VS Athletic Bilbao
Sevilla and Bilbao haven’t had the best of seasons even when more was expected from them.
Bilbao are resigned to loosing Fernando Llorente on a free at the end of the season while Sevilla’s 15 - goal man so far Negredo may leave the club to help their financial situation but on the field of play I expect an open free flowing game of football and if sevilla’s Jesus Navas is in his element he may just tip the balance in favour of his team.
Prediction: Sevilla 3-1 Athletic Bilbao
UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Galatasaray VS Real Madrid
Turkey is never an easy place to play football even for the mighty Madrid.
Real take a 3-0 advantage to Istanbul but it’s never going to be a straight forward game because Galatasaray will make a game of this and their fans will try and weaken Madrid mentally not just on the pitch but in their hotel rooms, training ground, and through the media that’s how strong supportership is in Turkey.
Jose Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world and can motivate his team to get a result which I believe they will against a team led in attack by one of his sons Drogba.
Prediction: Galatasaray 2-1 Real Madrid
Dortmund VS Malaga
Dortmund are yet to lose a game in this year’s champions league, topping a group that had Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Ajax they have shown mental toughness and flair that has endured them into the hearts of many sports fans across the world.
They were unlucky in their first leg quarter final fixture against Malaga not to come out with a win, thanks to Malaga’s Argentine goalkeeper who ensured Malaga travel to Germany with a 0-0 scoreline.
Mario Gozte was particularly wasteful in the first leg but in Germany I expect them to go through even when I expect a tactical war from both coaches.
Prediction: Dortmund 3-1 Malaga
Juventus VS Bayern Munich
Bayern went into the first leg game against Juventus at the back of a 9-2 victory over Hamburg and the return to form of Arjen Robben and clearly showed hunger as they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Juventus. It looks a mountain to climb for Juventus but in football you can never say it is over until the final whistle. Juventus have struggled with scoring goals this season and had to bring in Anelka on a 5months loan but it has not solved anything as majority of their goals are spread among the midfielders. For me Bayern are massive favourite to go through.
Prediction: Juventus 1-0 Bayern Munich
Barcelona VS PSG
News from Spain say that Messi will be fit for this game which will be a massive boost for the Catalan giants as his injury wasn’t as bad as first feared.
So going by that report PSG will again have their hands full on how to curtail this mercurial player, the first leg was a football delight for the neutral and I particularly love the 3 players that played behind Zlatan that is Lucas Moura, Lavezzi, and Pastore.
Everyone expect a Barcelona win since they are playing home and has a massive 2-2 away goal advantage but like I always say in football anything can happen. Prediction: Barcelona 1-2 PSG
