On the move: Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe is set to join MLS side Toronto on Monday Big fan: Toronto-born Drake is a huge supporter of his city's sports teams, Toronto FC and NBA's Toronto Rapids
Sometimes, a person takes decision after someone he respects influences him/her to take that step that before time, he/she is too reluctant to take. That is the case of Jermain Defoe impending move to the MLS in the USA and guess what, it's rapper, Drake who helped him make that decision.

It has being revealed that Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was persuaded to make his big move across to the United State of America by superstar rapper Drake.

Defoe is expected to complete a £5million move to Toronto FC, who are managed by former Spurs defender Ryan Nelsen, next week.
Back of the net! Seven of Defoe's nine strikes for Tottenham this season have come in the Europa League
And a phone call from Toronto-born Drake helped seal Defoe's deal to quit the north London club for the MLS

Defoe is set to join Toronto FC on Monday but won't link up with his new team-mates until March.

There has been no direct mention of Defoe on the club's own official website, but an image on the home page carries the words 'It's a bloody big deal', accompanied by Monday's date.
Good talker: A phone call from Canadian rap star Drake convinced Defoe to join MLS side Toronto
That link leads to a video, posted by Toronto FC on YouTube and shows a man in a white polo shirt sitting in what resembles an English cafe.

The man drinks from a cup of tea before spitting the drink out in shock at what he has seen on a television screen, before Toronto's logo appears beside him.

Should Defoe head to Major League Soccer, he will do so following 15-and-a-half years in English football and nine with Tottenham, split across two spells which have yielded 142 goals.

That tally leaves him fifth among the club's all-time leading goalscorers.

He has scored nine this season, two in September's Capital One Cup win over Aston Villa with the rest coming in the Europa League.

He has struggled to break into the starting line-up under coaches Andre Villas-Boas and his replacement Tim Sherwood, though, with Roberto Soldado and most recently Emmanuel Adebayor preferred.

Toronto, managed by Defoe's former Spurs team-mate Ryan Nelsen, are also interested in Blackburn's Bradley Orr and Michael Bradley of Roma.

It must be mentioned that Drake is great sport enthusiast as he is a huge fan of his city's sports teams and is a global ambassador for NBA side Toronto Rapids.
