LEGENDARY ICONIC WRESTLER THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR DIES DAYS AFTER BEING INDUCTED INTO WWE HALL OF FAME
Days after being inducted into WWE Hall of Fame, one of the world's most charismatic and popular professional wrestlers James '' Ultimate Warrior'' Hellwig died has died at the age of 54
Warrior, according to reports, collapsed on the sidewalk outside of his hotel room in Arizona while walking to his car with his wife and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hellwig’s death comes only three days after he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as The Ultimate Warrior, and just one day after he made an appearance on WWE’s Raw, his first appearance on the show since 1996.
WWE Chief Operating Officer and wrestling, Triple H broke the news of his passing on behalf of the company on his twitter handle
Saddened to announce the passing of the Ultimate Warrior. Icon and friend. My sympathy to his wife Dana and his daughters
According to WWE, The Ultimate Warrior was “one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever,” joined the organization in 1987 and three years later was world champion, defeating Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania VI at SkyDome in Toronto. The match, billed as the “Ultimate Challenge,” lived up to the billing in the eyes of most, a common staple in lists of greatest wrestling matches of all time.
Warrior's death comes as a shock to many who saw him seemingly in full health on WWE programming the past few days. He was a 2014 inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday, appeared at WrestleMania 30 and was on the latest edition of Monday Night Raw in character.
A WWE read "We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans,"
"WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans."
Numerous wrestling colleague also sent out their condolences on twitter.
One of the them is CEO of WWE, Vince McMahon and he had this to say, ''We are all so sad that the Ultimate Warrior has passed away. Our heart is with his wife Dana and his two daughters''
"RIP WARRIOR. only love. HH," tweeted Hellwig's biggest ring rival Hulk Hogan.
Newly crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Bryan also was not left out. ''Heartbroken. My sincerest condolences go out to The Warrior's family. Seeing how much he loved his daughters and his wife this weekend...makes it all the more heartbreaking. The Ultimate Warrior was my favorite as a kid, and getting to speak to him this weekend was one...... of my favorite moments. He was so nice to me.''
Born James Brian Hellwig, Warrior was among the most memorable and long-lasting characters in WWE history. With long, feathered hair, distinctive face paint designs that matched his trunks and an energetic, frenetic demeanor, Warrior was always destined to stand out.
But it was the constant energy, unforgettable backstage shoots and classic rivalry with Hulk Hogan that helped keep him in the minds of wrestling fans to this day.
Warrior was far more than just a memorable character. He was also a wildly accomplished in-ring performer. He held the Intercontinental championship multiple times and then defeated Hogan at WrestleMania VI to capture his first WWE (then WWF) championship in 1990.
Although Warrior would join WCW for a short period, his career as a wrestler was effectively over. He rebranded himself as a public speaker, earning a living by capitalizing on the intensity of his past Warrior promos—just without the makeup.
With years having passed since they had severed ties, the feud between WWE and Warrior soon began to thaw.
His induction into the Hall of Fame was seen by many as a reintegration of Warrior—a classic character despite his short run—into the wrestling world. In many ways, Monday's promo indicated that he still had it, with the New Orleans crowd feeding off his every word.
