Chelsea are expected to lose millions of pounds with the transfer of Diego Costa this summer as their desire to move him on has been made public.
The Spain international is strongly linked with a £40million move to AC Milan after he revealed Antonio Conte has told him he’s not in his plans for next season.
This could prove a risky move by the Blues after another fine season in front of goal for Costa, whose performances helped fire the club to a second Premier League title in three seasons.
And worse yet, it is speculated Costa may have grounds to claim a loyalty bonus for being publicly forced out of Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chelsea also stand to lose out on receiving a big transfer fee for Costa, with a proposed £40million move to Milan nearly half of what they could’ve earned from the sale.
The 28-year-old had been linked with a transfer worth as much as £78million to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjin last month, but clubs now know Chelsea are looking to sell.
Diego Costa 2016/17 statistics stands at: 42 Appearances, 22 Goals and 7 Assists.
Romelu Lukaku is being linked strongly as Costa’s replacement up front, but Chelsea will be in a weaker negotiating position if selling clubs such as Everton know how desperate they are for a striker signing.
All in all, despite a superb season of winning the title and reaching the FA Cup final, the start of this summer has been poorly handled by Conte.
