Arsenal showed a glimpse of what to expect in the new season with another vicrory over Chelsea to lift the Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium.
Victor Moses opened the scoring early in the second half after the first half ended goaless, a goal which looked like it would be the game decider.
Then in the 82nd minute Chelsea winger Pedro was given a straight Red for a rash challenge on Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
Arsenal capitalized on their one man advantage and got the equaliser from the resulting freekick through a header from substitute Sead Kolasinac, on his competitive debut.
After the game ended 1-1 at normal time, it went straight into penalty shoot-out.
The ABBA penalty system was adopted, with Chelsea starting the kick and Arsenal following up twice with Chelsea following up twice again.
Thibaut Courtois blazed way high, just like a goal kick and Alvaro Morata kicked wide from the spot with Olivier Giroud going on to score the winning penalty.
Arsenal wins the Community Shield by beating Chelsea 4-1 on penalties.
Arsenal have now won the Community Shield three times in the last four years and also equal Liverpool on second in the all time Shield cup winners table, while the Blues have lost four consecutive appearances in the fixture and back-to-back loss at Wembley.
